It is too expensive to hire a wedding planner.

Myth #2:

If I hire a wedding planner I loose control over my wedding.

FACT: A good wedding planner will never step in and completely take over! We at Memories 4U know that brides want to still be in control and enjoy the planning process. This remains the case if you hire a wedding planner.

Let’s put it this way, when you buy your first home, you get an estate agent to help facilitate the process, they don’t choose the house for you! The same applies here! It's your wedding day and every decision is yours to make.

A wedding planner acts as an agent and works on your behalf. They will facilitate the process, take care of technical aspects and offer advice. It is still and will always be YOUR DAY!!

Myth #3:

I don't need a wedding planner my friends and family are going to help me!

Yes, of course they are! That’s what friends and family are for!

FACT: Regardless of how many parties they have planned on their own, nothing compares to a wedding and the amount of work that goes into it.

You also want the day to be perfect, as it is the most important day of your life. A professional in any field is normally a specialist at what they do. Friends and family have opinions but not the “KNOW HOW” and skills needed, nor do they have the contacts of the best reliable suppliers in the wedding industry. On that day wouldn’t you rather have your family and friends enjoy all the little details you have picked out?

Myth #4:

I don't need a wedding planner, the venue I chose has a wedding co-ordinator in the package.

FACT: YES, most venues have their own event/wedding coordinator, who by the way works for the venue and not for the bride!!

Let's set the record straight once and for all. A wedding coordinator from a venue is generally one whose duties are for the day of the wedding.

A wedding planner means that this professional has planned the wedding from start to finish and works only for the bride/bridal couple.

Most event/wedding coordinators that work for these venues are professionals and have extensive experience in this industry and will coordinate all that concerns the venue, but

Are they there with the bride from the beginning?
Do they facilitate the whole process getting the bridal couple the best quality services for the best prices?
Listening to the bride complain about her in-laws?
Going to help pick her dress?
Organise all the suppliers on the day and ensure that their responsibilities go according to the set out time schedule?
Being the counsellor?
The list goes on!!

Bottom line a Wedding Planner puts the bridal couple first above all else.

Myth #5:

I don't need a wedding planner, there isn't that much work to do.

FACT: Planning a wedding is not a game and will probably be the biggest job you will ever undertake in your life.

Most brides think that once everyone has been hired and all the elements have been booked and paid for, the wedding is done.

If only everything in life was that easy!

Besides all the physical work required on the day, that will leave you and your mom/family exhausted and annoyed, there is so many little details and elements that requires a huge amount of time and planning in order to get right.

There is so much work involved adding up to the final hours prior to the wedding, that you will find yourself fighting with people closest to you, irritated and not really enjoying the whole process.

I hear brides often saying "I just can’t wait for the day to be over." Really? It is the biggest day of your life and the one you have dreamed of since you could understand a fairytale and now you can’t wait until it’s over?

Hire a wedding planner to make the process easier and let it be smooth sailing for all concerned. Why wouldn’t you want to pay someone to make your life easier and to do all the work including the physical labour on the day?

Myth #6:

Wedding Planners Have a Wealth of Information That They Just Give Out Freely To All and Sundry

Fact: "Wedding Planners Do Have an Abundance of Contacts, Tips, Knowledge and Information". Therefore, we should get paid for our expertise as we are Professionals in Our Field.

When you phone a lawyer you are willing to pay for his advice and knowledge. He too has worked long and hard to be a professional in his field.

Every planner spends years establishing contacts with the best suppliers in the industry, forming relationships with them and creating a network that is trusted. This is all done so that the planner can save their client “The Bride” time and money, but always ensuring the best service delivery, paying attention to reliability and quality to suit the clients needs and budget.

The client is buying the planners expertise, knowledge and time, not just their phone book!
